A guide to balancing hormones and improving your fertility

adrianypc

Balancing hormones is a must for women who are hoping to get pregnant.

Estrogen. Progesterone. Luteinizing Hormone. Cortisol. These are some of the key hormones that affect a woman’s fertility. How does it work? If a woman’s body produce too much or too little of these hormones, this has a direct and significant impact on her fertility. In a nutshell, women experiencing an imbalance in their hormones find it harder to conceive.

Now, conventional treatments for hormonal imbalances include birth control pills, synthetic hormone replacement therapies, and various medication, but using these may open up another can of worms. More specifically, these treatments tend to bring about side effects including anxiety, nausea, headaches and migraines, mood swings… the list goes on.

Bearing this in mind, we recommend that women who are experiencing problems with their hormones try to balance out these hormones naturally (and only turn to medication and synthetic therapies if this doesn’t work). Read on to find out exactly how you can start balancing hormones naturally!

#1: Swap out refined carbs for unrefined carbs

If you suspect that you’re having a hormonal imbalance, the first thing you should do is cut down on your consumption of refined carbs. Go ahead and substitute your white bread and white rice with brown bread and whole grains, which are absorbed more slowly by your system. Because consuming unrefined carbs leads to less spikes in your blood sugar level, your body won’t be forced to produce more insulin and estrogen as a response.

#2: Eliminate toxic household products

Here’s something that most folks don’t know: plenty of body care products and household products are made with potentially-harmful chemicals and toxins such as parabens, propylene glycol and organophosphate flame retardants. Coming into contact with even trace amounts of these chemicals on a daily basis will mess with your hormone levels, which in turn affects your fertility.

When purchasing body care products, try and opt for natural products which are made using essential oils, coconut oil, shea butter, and the like. For those who cook, be sure to use glass or non-coated metal plans instead of non-stick or teflon pans.

Step 3: Meditate and visualize

If you’ve been trying to get pregnant (unsuccessfully!) for some time now, you might be under a great deal of pressure. When this happens, your body is flooded with the stress hormone Cortisol; this suppresses the production of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH), which is a key reproductive hormone that’s crucial for fertility.

How do you reduce your stress levels, and keep your hormones nice and balanced? Simple – by using a combination of meditation and visualization techniques. To learn more about meditation and visualization, read this guide!
