TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a natural fertility treatment that treats infertility through the use of acupuncture and/or Traditional Chinese Herbs to combat infertility.

Traditional Chinese Herbs use certain foods and herbs to balance the Qi (energy) of the individual. Certain herbs can also reduce dampness and phlegm in the female body, thus reducing the chances of cervical or vaginal infections. They can also enhance natural fertility in females by regulating the natural functions of ovulation and fertility process. TCM herbs can also help improve sperm motility, production and morphology, thus helping to increase male fertility naturally.

From a TCM perspective, causes for female infertility include Kidney-Yang deficiency, Kidney-Yin deficiency, Blood and Qi deficiency, Blood and Qi stagnation, Liver-Qi stagnation and Phlegm and Dampness. These can lead to high FSH levels, blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, endometriosis, PCOS and cervical or vaginal infections among others.

Causes of male infertility include deficiency of Kidney-Yin or Kidney-Yang, a weak Spleen and Stagnant-Qi or Blood stasis. These can lead to low sperm count or mobility, abnormal sperm morphology, and abnormalities in the seminal fluid.

TCM herbal prescriptions treat infertility due to problems affecting blood, liver, kidney, spleen and water circulation, while acupuncture uses hair-thin disposable and sterilised needles inserted into acupoints on the body to get Qi flowing into affected areas, thus triggering a healing response.

There's also science backing up the benefits of acupuncture. Research from Weill Cornell Medical Center in the US has found that it helps balance hormones to regulate ovulation, aids blood circulation to increase the changes of a fertilised egg implanting in the womb, and also boosts rates of success for women undergoing IVF.

Our TCM partner is able to conduct a full diagnosis of your fertility issue and provide a customised treatment plan that can include TCM herbs and acupuncture. They also provide herb preparation and delivery service, as well as house calls, so that you may receive your TCM treatment in the comfort of your own home.
