Acupressure 101: How to use Meridian acupressure to boost fertility

If you’re a believer in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), you’ll know that having an adequate flow of energy, or qi, through the pathways in your body is crucial to ensure overall wellness. Apart from aiding in general health, maintaining the same balance of qi is also important in boosting fertility, and increasing a woman’s chances of conception. Read on to find out more!

What is Meridian acupressure?

meridian acupressure

A Meridian refers to an “energy highway” through which qi travels. According to TCM, there are twelve main meridians, and each of these twelve channels consists of a Yin and Yang pair of organs. On top of the main meridians, there are also what TCM practitioners call ‘extraordinary meridians’; these act as reservoirs of qi and blood, but are not directly linked to any major organs.

Once you understand what a Meridian is, the concept of Meridian acupressure is relatively simple to grasp. This is essentially using acupressure (whereby you apply pressure) to stimulate the Meridians in one’s body.

How does Meridian acupressure work?

Using either a machine and/or manual stimulation, your acupressure practitioner will press deeply on your Meridian points to stimulate them. Whilst you will definitely feel the applied pressure, you should not be feeling any pain or discomfort.

Meridian acupressure helps in increasing blood flow to specific areas (in the case of fertility, the reproductive organs). This will stimulate a release in toxins, reduce pelvic congestion, and result in greater reproductive tissue health – all of which can increase your chances of conception.

Which Meridian points on my body affect fertility?

There are multiple Meridian points that can influence fertility; however, the following ones are some of the more important points to take note of.

Ren 14: The Ren 14 Meridian point is located 4 inches above your belly button, and halfway between your sternum and belly button. Stimulate this point in order to reduce excessive buildup of fluids in your fallopian tubes and uterus, as well as to improve secretion of cervical mucus.

Ki 16: The Ki 16 is located one inch away from your belly button, on both sides of your belly button. This is known to be one of the most important Meridian points where fertility is concerned; stimulating it is said to reduce autoimmune related infertility issues.

Ren 4: This Ren 4 is located 2 inches below your belly button. Stimulate this point to increase the health of your uterus, improve blood circulation, and prepare your uterus for implantation.

UB 23: The UB 23 is located at your lower back – imagine drawing a straight line through your navel, coming out from your back, and you’ll be able to pinpoint the exact spot. For women, stimulating this point helps relieve painful menstrual cramps, and also reduces abnormal vaginal discharge. For men, stimulating this point increases libido and sexual performance.
