Trying to get pregnant? You could cut out all your favourite sweets and snacks and stick to a strict “clean” diet… but where’s the fun in that? In this blog post, we share 5 substitutions that will let you enjoy your food, while still maintaining a healthy diet.
#1: Air-fried foods instead of deep-fried foods
If you’re trying to maintain a healthy diet, you’ll want to get your hands on an air-fryer and use it all the time. This gadget allows you to fry your favourite foods and snacks while using no (or minimal) oil. Fries, chicken wings, pork chops… the possibilities are endless.

#2: Home-made chips instead of store-bought ones
Most store-bought chips are pretty unhealthy - they’re calorie-laden, and also pack in a ton of fat and sodium. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to make your own home-made chips at home.
To do this, you can use an oven or an air-fryer. Apart from your standard potato chips, you can also have fun and experiment with sweet potato chips, apple chips, kale chips, yam chips, and more.

#3: Froyo instead of ice-cream
Who else likes to pull out a tub of ice-cream from the fridge and snack on it while binge-watching Netflix? You’ll quickly rack up the calories eating ice-cream, so the next time you’re craving something cold and sweet, make homemade frozen yoghurt instead of buying a tub of Ben and Jerry’s.
Check out: We’re not linking to a recipe, because this is so easy to do! Just buy popsicle molds and a tub of yoghurt (extra brownie points if it’s greek yoghurt), then pour the yoghurt out and freeze it in its individual molds. To jazz up your froyo, you can also add fruit such as blueberries, diced strawberries, mango, etc.
#4: Yoghurt instead of mayo
Mayonnaise is made using eggs, oil and an acidic component such as vinegar, and store-bought mayo tends to contain a lot of saturated fat. The next time you’re making a salad, a dip, or anything else that calls for mayo, swap out your mayo for greek yoghurt. You get the same creamy consistency, but you’re cutting back on a ton of calories.

#5: Cauliflower instead of pizza dough
As it turns out, you can actually use cauliflower in place of pizza dough. This helps you reduce the amount of carbs you’re consuming, and get in more vegetables while you’re at it. Just make sure you have cauliflower, eggs, cheese, and your favourite spices or seasoning on hand, and you’re all set.
