What is fertility massage, and how does it help your fertility?

adrianypc

We’ve all heard of post-natal massage (the ones that help new mummies reduce bloating, and get back into shape!), but what about fertility massage? In this article, we’ll walk you through exactly what fertility massage entails, and highlight the different types of fertility massage.

What is a fertility massage?

In a nutshell, fertility massage refers to a deep massage that’s focused on improving circulation to a woman’s abdominal area. This massage is tailored specifically to women hoping to get pregnant, and it sometimes involve reflexology, acupressure, pulsing, or Reiki techniques.

Fertility massages in Singapore

In Singapore, establishments which offer fertility massages include House Of Traditional Javanese Massage, Yoga Singapore, Comfy Home Massage, and Mummy’s Fertility. Each establishment claims to bring about the same benefits with their massages, including:

  1. Regulating one’s menstrual cycle

  2. Repositioning a tilted uterus

  3. Stimulating the flow of fresh blood within the uterus

  4. Improving circulation to the uterus and cervix

  5. Promoting hormonal balance, and

  6. Reducing stress and anxiety

That said, the various establishments and practitioners utilize their own specific techniques to help women achieve these benefits.

Mummy’s Fertility, for example, offers a Sengkak womb massage that’s administered using traditional Malay massage techniques. The massage is performed at the lower abdomen over the uterus, hips, pubic bone, and sacrum. The Sengkak womb massage aside, Mummy’s Fertility also offers a Full Body Fertility Massage, Uterus Heat Therapy, and Vaginal Steam Therapy.

Fertility massages abroad

While fertility massages are still slowly gaining traction in Singapore, they’re more popular overseas. In the Western world, particularly, there are various practitioners who are renowned for the fertility massage therapies that they’ve created. These include:

  1. Randine Lewis, L.Ac., Ph.D., creator of The Fertile Soul Method™

  2. Larry Wurn, creator of the Wurn Technique

  3. Meredith Nathan, creator of the Fertility Enhancing Massage (FEM) Protocol

  4. Claire Marie Miller, creator of the Nurturing the Mother™ method

  5. Dr Rosita Arvigo, creator of the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy

Do fertility massages work?

When it comes to the effectiveness of fertility massages, experts are very much divided. Practitioners, naturally, assert that their massage therapies are effective in boosting fertility. There are a few studies which back up these claims; for instance, this study says that massage therapies improve in-vitro fertilization outcomes. That said, non-practitioners are skeptic, pointing out that any success is largely attributed to anecdotal accounts.

At the end of the day, if you experience a great deal of stress in your day-to-day, and you’ve been trying to conceive with no success, there’s no harm trying out a fertility massage. Fingers crossed, this might just be the thing that does the trick!
